My journey to becoming a birth and bereavement doula really started when I suffered through my first miscarriage. The experience of giving birth at home, in the first trimester, was traumatic and I felt so unprepared. Through my journey to motherhood, I had two missed miscarriages and gave birth at home, took medication, and needed a D&C. Through my experience, I saw how unsupported people are and where the gaps in care were — so I knew that one day I wanted to change the narrative when it came to miscarriage care.
In 2020, when there was a global pandemic, I gave birth to my first of two living sons. His birth showed me just how much grief work I needed to do and how having a living child after loss doesn’t heal all wounds. That’s when I registered for the certification course to become a birth + bereavement doula. Through my learnings, I still saw a gap in first and second trimester losses so I’ve spent every day since doing continuing education and focusing our support on those trimesters specifically.
I have a medical background (certified pharmacy technician, phlebotomist, and medical assistant) and love to learn new things. Oh, I’m also a coffee lover at heart and every zoom call I have, you’ll see a coffee mug in my head.
